All-in-one grow bag with hardwood substrate and wheat grain, standing upright

All-in-One Grow Bag sterile (wheat grains + hardwood)

19,30 € Unit price 6,43 €/L

For wood-loving mushrooms • fresh to order • 3 L (approx. 1.75 kg)

Everything in one bag – simple, clean and ideal for beginners

This all-in-one grow bag gives you a fully prepared, sterile grow bag for wood-decaying mushrooms. The bag contains everything you need: sterilised wheat grains at the bottom as the nutrient base for the first colonisation phase, and on top a hardwood substrate with nutrient-rich wheat bran. Everything is already layered, moistened and processed under sterile conditions, so that you can achieve good yields under suitable conditions. No transferring, no mixing, and you don't need your own autoclave. All you have to do is inject 3 to 5 ml of liquid mycelium culture.

It's that simple: all you need is a liquid culture and an alcohol swab. Briefly wipe the needle and injection port with the swab, inject 3–5 ml – the mycelium does the rest for you. No autoclave, no transferring, no lab.

This bag is a good solution for beginners without prior knowledge who want to start growing mushrooms – without complicated preparation or special equipment. You need neither an autoclave nor a pressure cooker or lab equipment – simply inoculate, wait and harvest.

Fewer steps, lower risk of contamination

In traditional mushroom growing, grain spawn and fruiting substrate are often prepared separately and mixed together later. That means more steps, more contact with the material and therefore a higher risk of contamination. Our all-in-one grow bag reduces these risks: from inoculation to fruiting, the bag stays largely closed. The mycelium first colonises the grain layer and then the hardwood substrate – all in the same sterile bag.

Three steps – from inoculation to harvest

1. Inoculate
Inject 3 to 5 ml of liquid culture through the self-healing injection port with a sterile syringe. The bag stays completely closed.

2. Let it colonise
Wait about 1 to 2 weeks until the mycelium has partly colonised the grain layer. Many growers wait until the grain is fully colonised, but that isn't necessary here. Then mix the bag carefully so that the mycelium can spread through the whole substrate.

3. Fruiting
As soon as the substrate is fully colonised, fruiting conditions are started. Depending on the mushroom species, the way the bag is opened or cut can differ slightly. Please note the safety notice on fungal spores further down.

This simplified process makes mushroom growing accessible – even for beginners. Please note: the process involves handling sterile syringes/needles, cutting the bag and working with living cultures. Children should only take part under adult supervision and must not handle the needle/syringe or cut the bag (see the safety notes below). No prior knowledge or special equipment is required.

Carefully produced – every batch documented

Every bag is made fresh and shipped to Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. For every batch we measure pH, moisture content and relative humidity, and we sterilise the substrate under controlled autoclave conditions. The combination of wheat grains and hardwood substrate is tailored to the needs of wood-loving mushroom species – based on the same recipes we use in our own production.

What the bag comes with

Filter patch
Allows controlled gas exchange while protecting against contamination – the mycelium can breathe while unwanted organisms stay out.

Self-healing injection port
For clean inoculation with a syringe, without opening the bag. Ideal for liquid cultures.

Suitable for wood-loving edible mushrooms

This substrate is tailored to the needs of wood-loving edible mushrooms, including:

  • Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus)
  • King oyster (Pleurotus eryngii)
  • Shiitake (Lentinula edodes)
  • Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus)
  • Pioppino / black poplar mushroom (Cyclocybe aegerita)
  • Chestnut (Pholiota adiposa)
  • and other wood-loving edible species

Important: This version is not suitable for button mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) or other compost-loving species. For those we offer a separate CVG/compost version.

What's included

1 × all-in-one grow bag, 3 L (approx. 1.75 kg), sterile sealed, with filter patch and injection port

Quality note

If your bag doesn't arrive sterile, our sterile promise applies: send us a photo within 14 days of receipt, as long as the bag is unopened and not yet inoculated, and you get a new one. The success of your grow also depends on the quality of the inoculum, a clean inoculation technique and suitable conditions such as temperature and humidity. For good results we recommend using the bag as soon as possible after it arrives. Stored in the fridge, the unopened bag stays sterile for up to 4 weeks.

Who's behind it?

Meisterpilze was founded by a biologist with a doctorate and a chemist. What started as a kitchen experiment has grown into an urban mushroom farm: we grow gourmet mushrooms and sell them locally to restaurants and at markets.

Scientific care is part of our everyday work. Where others go by feel, we measure: pH, moisture, relative humidity – every batch is monitored and documented. Our substrates and grain spawn follow the recipes we use every day in our own production. So what we sell here is exactly the material our own mushrooms grow on. In short: lab coat meets mushroom farm.

Delivery time Freshly autoclaved to order · 1–2 business days processing, then dispatch

Safety information Safety notice: fungal spores (respiratory tract)
Mature mushrooms release spores. Inhaling larger amounts of spores can irritate the airways and lungs and, with repeated exposure, trigger allergic reactions up to extrinsic allergic alveolitis ("mushroom worker's lung").
• Let them fruit in well-ventilated rooms; do not set them up in bedrooms or rooms where people spend long periods.
• Harvest mushrooms shortly before they release their spores, to reduce the spore load.
• Sensitive or allergic people, people with pre-existing conditions and anyone with continuous exposure: wear respiratory protection (FFP2/FFP3).
• Never eat contaminated or mouldy cultures; dispose of the bag closed, without stirring up or inhaling spores.

Right of withdrawal Sealed goods for hygiene reasons: The right of withdrawal expires once the seal has been removed or the injection port has been opened (§ 312g para. 2 no. 3 BGB). Details can be found in § 6 of the General Terms and Conditions.

Live liquid culture – 10 ml syringe with sterile needle
You'll also need

Live liquid culture from our lab, with a sterile needle. 3–5 ml per bag, so one syringe is enough for 2–3 bags. For the hardwood All-in-One.

New to growing mushrooms? Here's how your All-in-One works

An All-in-One is a sterile bag with two layers: wheat grain at the bottom as food to get started, and on top the substrate the mushrooms will later grow on. You only add the mushroom culture, and the bag stays closed while you do.

The best part: you get to watch the mycelium grow. Day by day the white network spreads through the grain and the substrate, a stage a fully colonised grow kit never shows you. Fascinating to watch, especially with children (the syringe stays with the adult).

What else you need

  • A liquid culture of your mushroom variety (syringe, 3–5 ml per bag). For wood-loving mushrooms: our live liquid culture with needle
  • An alcohol swab for the injection port and the needle
  • A spot at room temperature, out of direct sunlight

How long it takes

  1. Day 0: inject 3–5 ml of culture through the injection port.
  2. After about 2 weeks the grain is colonised. Now mix the bag thoroughly.
  3. After about 2 more weeks the whole bag is white with mycelium.
  4. Fruiting: open the bag or cut slits into it. Varieties that fruit from the top can also grow right inside the bag. Bright but out of direct sun, and keep it humid.

Which bag for which mushroom?

Hardwood: for mushrooms that grow on wood, such as oyster mushroom, king oyster, shiitake, lion's mane, pioppino and chestnut mushroom.
CVG (coco coir, vermiculite, gypsum): for varieties that grow on dung or compost.

Our sterility promise

If your All-in-One doesn't arrive sterile (mould or unusual discolouration while the bag is still unopened and not inoculated), send a photo to team@meisterpilze.de within 14 days of receipt. You'll get a new bag.

One replacement per order, free of charge and in addition to your statutory warranty rights, which remain unaffected. After inoculation, the result depends on the culture and on how you work, and we're happy to help with that. Meisterpilze UG, Pommernstraße 13a, 91052 Erlangen, Germany.
