The easiest way to start growing mushrooms

You want to grow mushrooms, but all the effort with grain spawn, substrate, transferring and sterilising puts you off? That's exactly why we developed this set: a single bag contains everything you need – sterilised wheat grains (grain spawn) and nutrient-rich CVG substrate (coco coir, vermiculite, gypsum), perfectly layered and optimally moistened. No transferring, no mixing, no autoclave of your own needed.

It's that simple: all you need is a liquid culture and an alcohol swab. Briefly wipe the needle and injection port with the swab, inject 3–5 ml – the mycelium does the rest for you. No autoclave, no transferring, no lab.

Everything in one bag – fewer steps, less contamination

In classic mushroom growing you work with separate grain spawn and separate substrate – that means opening and transferring several times and therefore more chances for contamination. Our all-in-one grow bag eliminates these risks: the bag stays closed from inoculation to fruiting. The mycelium colonises the grains first, then the substrate – all in the same sterile bag.

Three steps – from inoculation to harvest

1. Inoculate

Inject liquid culture (liquid mycelium) through the injection port with a sterile syringe. The bag stays closed.

2. Colonisation

Wait until the mycelium has fully colonised the grains. Shake the bag gently so that the mycelium colonises the whole substrate. The bag still stays closed.

3. Fruiting

As soon as the substrate is fully colonised, open the bag and start fruiting conditions. The fruiting bodies develop directly in the bag.

This simplified process makes mushroom growing accessible to beginners too – no prior knowledge, no special equipment.

Lab precision in every bag

Every bag is produced fresh to order. We measure pH, moisture and relative humidity for every batch and sterilise in the autoclave under controlled conditions. The mix of wheat and CVG substrate is precisely balanced – the same recipe we use to grow our own gourmet mushrooms and sell them locally.

What the bag comes with

Filter patch

Controlled air exchange while protecting against contaminants – the mycelium can breathe, foreign organisms stay out.

Self-healing injection port

For clean inoculation with a syringe, without having to open the bag. Ideal for liquid culture.

Made specifically for button mushrooms and compost-loving species

This substrate is tailored specifically to the needs of button mushrooms and related compost-loving species, including: white button mushrooms, brown mushrooms / cremini / portobello, other Agaricus species (Agaricus bisporus), other compost-loving species.

What's included:

1 × 3 L premium substrate bag (approx. 1,750 g), autoclaved, sterile sealed with filter patch and injection port.

Different sizes available as product variants. Larger quantities on request.

Quality note:

If your bag doesn't arrive sterile, our sterile promise applies: send us a photo within 14 days of receipt, as long as the bag is unopened and not yet inoculated, and you get a new one. The success of your grow also depends on the quality of your inoculum (liquid culture), clean work during inoculation and suitable conditions (temperature, humidity). For the best results we recommend using it right after it arrives. Stored in the fridge, the bag stays sterile for up to 4 weeks.

Who's behind it?

Meisterpilze was founded by a biologist with a doctorate and a chemist – a kitchen experiment turned into urban mushroom production. We grow gourmet mushrooms for restaurants and markets, with scientific precision in every batch. Lab coat meets mushroom farm. And you can taste it.

Delivery time Freshly autoclaved to order · 1–2 business days processing, then shipping

Safety information Safety notice: fungal spores (respiratory tract)
Mature mushrooms release spores. Inhaling larger amounts of spores can irritate the airways and lungs and, with repeated exposure, trigger allergic reactions up to extrinsic allergic alveolitis ("mushroom worker's lung").
• Let them fruit in well-ventilated rooms; do not set them up in bedrooms or rooms where people spend long periods.
• Harvest mushrooms shortly before they release their spores, to reduce the spore load.
• Sensitive or allergic people, people with pre-existing conditions and anyone with continuous exposure: wear respiratory protection (FFP2/FFP3).
• Never eat contaminated or mouldy cultures; dispose of the bag closed, without stirring up or inhaling spores.

Right of withdrawal Sealed goods for hygiene reasons: The right of withdrawal expires once the seal has been removed or the injection port has been opened (§ 312g para. 2 no. 3 BGB). Details can be found in § 6 of the General Terms and Conditions.

New to growing mushrooms? Here's how your All-in-One works

An All-in-One is a sterile bag with two layers: wheat grain at the bottom as food to get started, and on top the substrate the mushrooms will later grow on. You only add the mushroom culture, and the bag stays closed while you do.

The best part: you get to watch the mycelium grow. Day by day the white network spreads through the grain and the substrate, a stage a fully colonised grow kit never shows you. Fascinating to watch, especially with children (the syringe stays with the adult).

What else you need

  • A liquid culture of your mushroom variety (syringe, 3–5 ml per bag). For wood-loving mushrooms: our live liquid culture with needle
  • An alcohol swab for the injection port and the needle
  • A spot at room temperature, out of direct sunlight

How long it takes

  1. Day 0: inject 3–5 ml of culture through the injection port.
  2. After about 2 weeks the grain is colonised. Now mix the bag thoroughly.
  3. After about 2 more weeks the whole bag is white with mycelium.
  4. Fruiting: open the bag or cut slits into it. Varieties that fruit from the top can also grow right inside the bag. Bright but out of direct sun, and keep it humid.

Which bag for which mushroom?

Hardwood: for mushrooms that grow on wood, such as oyster mushroom, king oyster, shiitake, lion's mane, pioppino and chestnut mushroom.
CVG (coco coir, vermiculite, gypsum): for varieties that grow on dung or compost.

Our sterility promise

If your All-in-One doesn't arrive sterile (mould or unusual discolouration while the bag is still unopened and not inoculated), send a photo to team@meisterpilze.de within 14 days of receipt. You'll get a new bag.

One replacement per order, free of charge and in addition to your statutory warranty rights, which remain unaffected. After inoculation, the result depends on the culture and on how you work, and we're happy to help with that. Meisterpilze UG, Pommernstraße 13a, 91052 Erlangen, Germany.
